Jacques Villegle
Quimper, France, 1926
Jacques Villeglé made works from scrap metal at the beginning of his career. Later they still reused these materials, but in the form of posters. He composed fragments of these posters into works of art. This is how the first 'posters déchirées' or 'posters lacérées' (translated, torn off posters) were created. Villeglé compares his way of working to that of a photographer, who observes his objective through a lens and then prints. His work did not receive the recognition it deserved until later in his career. For example, MOMA (Museum for Modern Art) has named him one of their 200 best artists. Villeglé still roams the streets in search of usable 'material' for his works of art.
