Gerald Gasiorowski
Paris, 1930-1986
Gérard Gąsiorowski was a famous French artist and photographer whose work was particularly strongly associated with the emergence of Pop Art. Gasiorowski passed many of his paintings on images collected through the publisher where he worked as a librarian. He painted these photos as realistically as possible. Gasiorowski's work was very successful, but despite this, he radically changed his way of working when he became more critical of Western painting and the structure of the art world. He started focusing on photo montages and making 'fictional works of art'. After 1983, Gasiorowski nevertheless returned to painting. Several important museums showed his work. This includes the MNAM-Cenrte Pompidou in Paris. This screen print was passed on one of the paintings that could be admired there at an exhibition of Gérard Gasiorowski's oeuvre.
